2010 Teacher Workshops
Registration is now open for any of the workshops below. Some of the details of the workshops are TBA- To be announced and/or TBD- To be determined, so check back later or email/call me for details.

The cost of each workshop is list in the description, please check the cost of the workshop before you pay as the registration cost varies.

Project Learning Tree: Secondary ModulesFebruary 4, 2010 - 9:00 to 4:00 pm

Calling all middle and high school teachers this workshop is for you. Project Learning Tree has specially designed curriculum for older students. Many of the modules are “Exploring Environmental Issues” and then delve deep into subjects such as Municipal Solid Waste, Places We Live, Focus on Forests and Focus on Risk. Other modules include: The Changing Forest: Forest Ecology and Global Connections: Forests of the World. We will be cover 3-4 of the modules and that means many, many lessons and activities for your students.

Project WILD (Includes Project WILD Aquatic WILD)February 26, 2010- 8:30 to 3:30 p.m.Columbia Springs - Swift Classroom. 12208 SE Evergreen Hwy, Vancouver, WA 98683
Project WILD is one of the most widely-used conservation and environmental education programs among educators of students in kindergarten through high school. It is based on the premise that young people and educators have a vital interest in learning about our natural world. Teachers that attend will do activities from all the Project WILD curricula and get copies of all the books to use with their students. Debuting will be Growing Up WILD, the newest activity guide that targets early childhood from 3 to 7 years old.

The Leopold Education ProjectMarch 19, 2010- 9 to 3:30 Columbia Springs - Swift Classroom. 12208 SE Evergreen Hwy, Vancouver, WA 98683 This workshop will inspire stewardship, sustainability & environmentalism in your classroom through the writings of Aldo Leopold and his book A Sand County Almanac and other resources for use with your students. The cost of this workshop is $25

Climate Change & Alternative EnegyApril 14, 2010 - 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Clark County Safety Center, NW 179th St, Ridgefield, Wa (near the Clark County Fairgrounds)Climate Change should be a concern to everyone. Teachers, this class will provide you some background information and ways that you can teach your students about climate change and ll the implications that changing weather patterns and temperatures may have on our state, region and planet. The Pacific Northwest is a place where alternative energies thrive; come and learn how wind, solar, and other technologies are gaining in popularity as well as the obstacles that these energy sources have and face. The cost of this workshop is $25 (6 Clock Hours) |
Columbia Gorge: Geology, Floods & Air QualityMay 15, 2010 - 8 am to 6 p.m.
Columbia Springs - Swift Classroom. 12208 SE Evergreen Hwy, Vancouver, WA 98683This workshop will be a road trip through the gorge with several stops to learn about this beautiful place. Dr. Charlene Montierth, Clark College and Kathy Finkle, Southwest Washington Clean Air will be our leaders. The registration fee includes lunch, snacks, drinks and transportation costs. There is a limit of 40 for this class and tour. The cost of this workshop is $40 (~8 Clock Hours) |
Washington Green Schools SummitMay 18, 2010 - 9:00 to 3:30 pmWater Resources Education Center, 4600 Southeast Columbia Way, Vanouver, WA 98661 Come celebrate all you have accomplished this year and become inspired to continue into the 2010-2011 school year. Share strategies that worked well and discuss those things that could be improved with the program and discuss support for the future. Lunch will be provided. 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Tour of the West Van Transfer StationJune 3, 2010 - 8:30 to 4 pmCome and learn how to save landfill space by reducing the amount of solid waste materials (i.e. TRASH) that you put into to "waste stream". A tour of Waste Connections' recycling and transfer station will let you know firsthand how solid waste and recycling is accomplished. You will learn how to bring your students to the facility as a field trip and how to go above and beyond recycling in fun ways that you can pass along to your students. The cost of this workshop is $25 (7.0 Clock Hours) |
NOTE: Substitute Reimbursements may be available for teachers who request funds prior to the workshop, please inquire about funds at the time of registration. Workshop space is somewhat limited, so please register as soon as possible.
