Summer Camp

Columbia Springs hosts an annual Summer Camp for kids entering 2nd-5th grades. The 2010 camp will be offered the weeks of July 12th-16th and July 26th-30th from 9am-3pm. This camp provides an opportunity for kids to have an active and creative outdoor learning experience close to home. Volunteers are recruited to serve as Camp Counselors and as Educator Assistants. These roles are open to all who have enthusiasm, experience with kids, and interest in nature. To apply for a position please fill out and submit the volunteer application below by July 2, 2010. Click here for more information on summer camp and registering campers.

Stewardship Saturday

Everyone is welcome for Stewardship Saturday!

Stewardship Saturday is an opportunity for individuals and families to come out and participate in restoration activities. We remove non-native species, plant native species, maintain and break trail, as well as many other fun physical activities. Snacks, coffee, tools, and gloves will be provided... so get away from that desk, and get outside! (We ask that children be accompanied by a parent.) The next volunteer opportunity will be on Saturday, August 14, 2010. This event happens between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Docents & Environmental Ed Assistants

We are now looking for individuals to act as Volunteer Docents to help lead student and public tours of our hatchery. These individuals would be on an on-call basis for large student groups and special events. Often these times will be during the week, though some events may be on weekends. Watch this space for future Docent Training opportunities or contact us.

From the volunteer docent pool we are hoping to find a few individuals who would be interested in becoming Education Assistants. These people would help teach hands on environmental programs with Columbia Springs staff. Further training would be necessary, and preference will be shown for individuals with a background in education or science.

Additional Service Opportunities

Further opportunities exist for Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Eagle Scouts, and other community members interested in completing environmental projects (can be toward merit badge). Examples include, building boardwalks or decks, small bridges over springs, habitat construction projects, and more.
