Air Quality Guideline for Outdoor Activities

Your safety is our first priority!

At Columbia Springs, your safety (and the safety of our students, campers, and visitors) is our priority. During wildfire smoke events or other air quality concerns, we monitor the Air Quality Index (AQI) in real time and adjust programs to keep everyone safe.

We follow Washington State recommendations and modify or cancel outdoor activities when AQI exceeds 100.

  • 151+ (Unhealthy to Very Unhealthy): All programs are canceled to protect the health and safety of everyone involved.

How We Communicate

We monitor AQI using AirNow.gov and the Washington Smoke Blog. If conditions change, we’ll contact program participants via email and post updates on social media.

Thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we work to provide safe, meaningful outdoor experiences—no matter the air quality. Please reach out with any questions about specific programs or policies.
