Alice Yang and Kam Lawrence just joined Salmon in the Classroom this year, but they’ve already taught me a thing or two about salmon. Before this fall, I never knew how important Otter Pops could be in raising healthy baby salmon. The 4th and 5th grade students at Cape Horn Skye Elementary were beyond excited to receive their first coho fingerlings on Monday, Sept 28th, but on Wednesday, Sept 30th they were scared all their fish might die. The powerhead pump failed, and the water warmed to a dangerous temperature. What’s a teacher to do? Put popsicles in the tank, of course!!! Oh yeah, and then disassemble and repair the failed equipment. They solved the problem brilliantly before I even arrived. I was VERY impressed!
