Walking along Heron Loop Trail, you may have noticed some new additions. George Kenny, a local chainsaw artist, spent an afternoon carving owls, herons, and other creatures into dead cedar trees.

Over the course of a few hours, Kenny and his son Garrett Aries carved into seven different trees along Heron Loop Trail. Can you spot them all?

Art adds a sense of culture and community to our trails. The carvings are a reward for students who pay attention as they amble around Heron Loop on our science and nature field trips.

Thank you to Heidi Johnson Bixby for commissioning the art installation. We are excited to have the opportunity to add more unique learning opportunities to our site. Read more about this art installation in The Columbian article here
