As the year comes to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on what it means to be a place for learning, connection, and community here in Clark County.

This year, thousands of children from across our region visited Columbia Springs for hands-on science and nature field trips. They explored forest trails, learned about salmon and aquatic life, asked big questions, and discovered that learning can be active, joyful, and rooted in the natural world around them. For many students, these visits were their first opportunity to learn outdoors in a space designed for curiosity and care.

We also welcomed a group of high school interns to support our summer camps. Meaningful internship opportunities for high school students are increasingly rare, yet deeply important. These interns gained real experience working with younger kids, building confidence, practicing leadership, and seeing themselves as educators and stewards. In turn, they brought energy, creativity, and enthusiasm that strengthened our programs and inspired the campers they worked with.

Beyond school programs, Columbia Springs continued to be a gathering place for the wider community. Families joined us for Nature Days, where kids could explore seasonal themes through hands-on activities. Anglers of all ages came together for our Kids Fishing Festival, creating memories that often become annual traditions. Guided walks invited people to slow down, notice the land, and learn more about the plants, wildlife, and stories of this place. These events remind us that learning happens best when it is shared.

Looking ahead, we are excited to continue growing as a welcoming community resource. In the coming year, we will keep expanding opportunities for outdoor learning, youth leadership, and community connection. As we approach our 25th year, we are proud to be a place where neighbors gather, children discover new interests, and families return season after season to explore together.

None of this happens alone. It happens because of the teachers who bring their classes, the families who show up for events, the partners who believe in this work, and the supporters who make it possible.

As we move into a new year, we invite you to come explore with us. Join a guided walk, bring your family to a community event, or simply spend time on the trails. We look forward to welcoming you.

With gratitude,

Katherine Cory
