Columbia Springs Environmental Educators lead groups of students during science-based educational field trips at Columbia Springs. These hands-on, experiential field trips are designed to teach kindergarten through 6th grade students about local ecology, scientific practices and stewardship.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead a full class of elementary students (up to 30) through our 2-4hr education programs

  • Conduct outdoor activities in all kinds of weather on earth trails and uneven terrain

  • Manage the behavior of students through positive feedback

  • Set-up and clean-up all educational activities

  • Assist Education Coordinator with tasks as needed

Hours:

  • Generally 5-6 hours per shift (usually between 9am-2pm), 1-3 shifts per week. Potential for some weekend work associated with events and an increase in hours over the summer to lead summer camp programming

  • Planned work dates and times will be provided by the Education Coordinator in advance and are subject to change based on mutual agreement

Compensation: $13/hr with accrued paid sick leave

 

Desired Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Availability beginning October 1st, 2018

  • A bachelors degree in education or natural sciences OR 2-3 years relevant work and/or academic achievement

  • Experience with inquiry-based environmental education

  • Basic understanding of PNW forest ecology, natural history subjects, and environmental stewardship

  • Excellent verbal communication

  • Demonstrated ability to take direction and follow through on assignments

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Possess a positive, ‘Can-Do’ attitude and curiosity of the natural world

  • Ability to lift 50lbs and walk 3-4 miles over uneven ground
